Lymphedema and the Role of Compression Therapy

Lymphedema is a chronic and progressive disease. Proper compression garment selection is essential to patient compliance and will prevent the progression of the disease. In this session, we will explore the appropriate application, advantages, contraindications, and challenges of providing this service to your patients.

Kim joined the Juzo family as the Medical Education Liaison for Canada in 2020. Since 2005, Kim has ben helping patients with Lymphedema through the administration of Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) and Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT). Kim established her own practice working closely with her community and other healthcare professionals focusing on Lymphedema care. It was here she realized that there was an opportunity to help influence and educate her patients and peers on the identification and treatment options for patients suffering from Lymphedema. Her expertise combined with her passion for promoting the benefits of compression garments established her as a leader in her field. She has published many articles, facilitated seminars for both patients and clinicians and continues to be an active spokesperson and champion for Lymphedema awareness.

My name is Johanna (Yopi) Havlik, Certified Fitter, mastectomy, and I work at Fig Leaf Boutique in Indianapolis, IN. We are located in the Community Health Network MD Anderson Cancer Center. I have been fitting compression for 10 years. I have attended the Academy of Lymphatic Studies lymphedema management seminar, Klose Training Breast Cancer Rehabilitation course as well as classes sponsored by Juzo, Medi and Lymphedema Education & Research Network. I am a breast cancer survivor and have left upper extremity lymphedema since 2002. Finding the right fit for a patient is very personal to me. We work very closely with physical therapists and physicians to ensure proper garments for our patients.

My name is Katie Magennis, a Certified Fitter of Mastectomy. I joined Figleaf Boutique in 2010 as the Operational Manager. In the last 13 years I have contributed to the development of five Figleaf Boutique facilities located on the north, east and south sides of Indianapolis, IN. As a leader I want to help navigate the constant evolution of healthcare in the DME world. My goal is to assist staff in feeling confident in the service they deliver so the patient can have that improved quality of life they deserve.

Cheri Raimonde is a physical therapist with a clinical doctorate in physical therapy from Northern Arizona University. She is employed by Northern Arizona Healthcare EntireCare Rehab and Sports Medicine Experts department. Her clinic is located in beautiful Sedona, Arizona. As a physical therapist Cheri treats a variety of diagnosis with specialization in lymphedema. She became a certified lymphedema therapist through the Norton School in 2015 and then became LANA certifed in 2020. Cheri has experience treating various lymphatic disorders however was fortunate to team up with a world renowned breast surgeon and build a lymphedema treatment and prevention program for NAH's Breast Center which became an NAPBC accredited center. She has been invited to speak 5 years in a row for the Healing Consciousness Foundation on "Lymphedema in Breast Cancer Patients", was a guest speaker in Las Vegas at Power Symposium in 2020 and in April of 2023, presented in Boston to the American Society of Breast Surgeons "Lymphedema in Breast Cancer Patients" as part of a forum on setting up a survivorship program that fullfills NAPBC standards. Cheri has lived in Sedona for 23 years with her husband Ron, son Zane and golden doodle Boomer.

Tanya Baer has been in the O&P field for over 20 years. She started as a receptionist and is now a certified fitter of orthotics and mastectomy as well as the billing and credentialing specialist for her clinic. Tanya has a well rounded background in medical billing and insurance negotiating. She strives to make sure the patient's are not only satisfied with whatever items they receive, but also are informed as to what their insurance covers and how to make sure the process flows smoothly. Tanya also enjoys giving back to the O&P field by participating on AOPA committees when she can.
